Guatemala has great potential for the development of solar and wind NCRE. However, the current level of penetration of NCRE in the energy matrix is ??relatively low, close to 6%. In order to achieve high penetrations of renewable generation and to meet the international goals that the country assumed, promotional measures and regulatory adjustments are necessary to allow the free competition of technologies and the investment in power storage, giving the support that the system may need in the face of renewable volatility.
The Asociación de Generadores con Energía Renovable de Guatemala (AGER) presented a proposal to the Administrador del Mercado Mayorista (AMM) to recognize the firm offer and efficient firm offer to a hybrid variable renewable generation, including power storage that accompany the development of generation solar and wind power, and at GME we had the honor of working on the studies that led to this proposal.
